Cheaper Home Batteries Program
Home Battery Rebate in South Australia
How It Adds Up
How the Discount Is Calculated
The rebate is worked out per kilowatt hour of storage, and it tapers as the system gets bigger. That means a battery twice the size does not attract twice the discount, which is one of the reasons sizing it properly matters more than buying the biggest one on the shelf.
| Battery capacity | Share of the rate applied | What that means |
|---|---|---|
| First 14 kWh | 100% | The full rate, where most household systems sit |
| 14 to 28 kWh | 60% | Reduced rate on everything above 14 kWh |
| 28 to 50 kWh | 15% | Minimal rate, mostly relevant to commercial systems |
On top of the capacity taper, the underlying rate itself steps down on 1 January 2027 and again every six months after that. Your discount is fixed by the rate in force on your installation date, so the same battery is worth more installed in December than in February. We work out your actual figure when we quote the system, because it moves with the certificate market and no honest number can be printed on a web page.
Federal Battery Rebate
South Australia Has the Solar. Most Homes Are Missing the Battery.
More than 47% of South Australian homes already make their own power from rooftop solar. Only about 11% have a battery to keep any of it. The rest is exported for a few cents and bought back at full price after dark, which is exactly when most households actually use it.

Where We Come In
We Handle the Rebate, Not Just the Install
The rebate is not a cheque that turns up later. It comes off your quoted price as a point-of-sale discount, which means the installer does the certificate paperwork and you just pay less. That only works if it is set up correctly from the start.
- Sizing the battery to what your household actually uses
- Checking your eligibility before you commit to anything
- Quoting only Clean Energy Council approved products
- The certificate paperwork, so the discount lands on your invoice

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How much is the home battery rebate in South Australia?
Several thousand dollars on a typical household battery, though the exact amount depends on two things: the size of the system and the date it is installed. The discount is calculated per kilowatt hour and tapers above 14kWh, so a bigger battery does not attract a proportionally bigger rebate. Because it is delivered through tradeable certificates whose price moves, the only accurate figure is the one on a current quote. It is a federal program, so the calculation is the same right across South Australia. Program detail is on the Australian Government energy.gov.au site.
When does the battery rebate end?
Do I need solar panels to get the battery rebate?
How is the rebate actually paid?
Which batteries are eligible?
Can I combine this with other South Australian incentives?
Possibly, depending on your circumstances and your energy retailer. The federal rebate is designed to sit alongside state and territory schemes, and in South Australia the Retailer Energy Productivity Scheme offers separate incentives through obliged retailers, including for connecting a battery to a virtual power plant. Worth asking us and your retailer both.
